Run & Look

Hebrews 12:1 & 2 tells us to run our race with the strength and endurance the Spirit provides. It also says, looking unto Jesus the originator and perfector of our faith. "Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ." Phil. 1:6 The word, ‘looking’ means undivided attention, looking away from all distractions, worries, cares, fears and anxieties to focus on Jesus alone. "CASTING ALL OF OUR CARES ON HIM BECAUSE HE CARES FOR US"!! 1 Peter 5:7

Most of us struggle with various degrees of narcissism, which is a preoccupation with self. To be frank we look to many other things to find acceptance, value, worth, approval, peace and comfort other than Christ. We seem to be much better when our primary focus is on Jesus. This works out practically when we give ourselves to praise, worship and thanksgiving, acknowledging that every good thing we have is found in Christ Jesus through the word! (Philemon 6) When we focus on the cross, taking communion consistently and meditate on the finished work of the cross, we find greater peace.

We need to put more emphasis on I Corinthians 2:2, Paul said, "I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified". This was Paul’s main topic and emphasis of teaching!! He went as far as to say, "I have been crucified with Christ, it is no longer I who live but Christ lives in me and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the son of God who loved me and gave Himself for me." Galatians 2:20 This is a death blow to narcissism! Too much focus on our vision, gifts, goals, and desires can become idols and extremely self-centered!

The good news is that Father God delights in partnering with us as sons and daughters to establish his Kingdom on earth!! He continually surprises us with his goodness as we run with him, He has created all things for our enjoyment (Tim 6:17). Moses ran his race and endured as seeing Him who is invisible (Hebrews 11:27). Let us declare together that all this is for Him, to Him, through Him and about Him! To Jesus be all glory, honor and praise both now and forever! Amen.

Shalom,

Pastor Michael
